Abstract

This research is motivated by the ineffectiveness of Online Learning or Distance Learning duringthe Covid-19 pandemic era which causes learning loss at the basic education level. The Teaching Campus Program Batch-1 aims to provide solutions for elementary schools affected by the pandemic by empowering college students who live around the school area to assist teachers and principals in carrying out learning activities in the Covid-19 pandemic era. This research was carried out at the target schools of the Teaching Campus Program Batch-1 in North Sumatera. The samples ofthis study were students at elementary schools, which were accredited C, at 4 districts in North Sumatra province.  This is a descriptive quantitative and qualitative research. The purpose of this study was to find out: 1) How literacy and numeracy learning was carried out by college students of the Teaching Campus Program Batch-1 in an effort to improve the literacy and numeracy abilityof elementary school students at 3T schools (left behind, outermost, and foremost schools) during the covid-19 pandemic?, and 2) Do the students’ literacy and numeracy ability improved through the Campus Teaching program? Data were obtained by using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results show that the Teaching Campus Program can improve the elementary school students’ literacy and numeracy by various activities: 1) literacy and numeracy learning inside and outside classroom, 2) activate the reading corner, and 3) asynchronous activities.
