Abstract

Boaz became a redeemer in two ways, namely: (1) He married Ruth and kept the name Elimelech, Naomi's late husband. The first son of Ruth and Boaz is considered a descendant of Elimelech (Ruth 4:5,10), (2) Boaz redeemed by buying the family land that Naomi had sold and returning it to the descendants of Elimelech (Ruth 4:3,7-10). The redemption made by Boaz against Ruth became a symbol in the Old Testament of Jesus Christ who also redeemed sinners (Moabites) in two ways, namely: (1) Christ has redeemed believers with His own blood so as to preserve their lives and names from destruction in sin (John 3:16; 1 Peter 1:18-19), (2) He includes believers as redeemed in His eternal inheritance in the new heavens and new earth (Matthew 5:5; Revelation 21:1-7).
